You guys.
The Race With the Slip 'n Slide (also known as the BTN Big 10K) just opened for registration today. According to the BTN website (and my own eyes before, during and after the race last year), 13,000 people ran last year. This year they're expecting even more - in fact they're expecting it to sell out.
So, even though I'm from Texas and even though the only exposure I have to the Big Ten is through this race, I am telling you that this is definitely worth registering for before it sells out. If you're part of the Big Ten I'm sure you can find all kinds of things about this race to love: representing your school, overcoming rivals on the course, partying at the tailgating party afterwards, but if you're like me, the only thing you need to know about this race is:
IT HAS A SLIP 'N SLIDE IN THE MIDDLE OF IT
Important side note: the first 1,500 who register get a one-gallon tin of Garrett Popcorn. I think you can even carry the tin with you during the race and take it on the slip 'n slide with you.
Registration available here: btnbig10k.com
Anyway, even if it's only 59 degrees again on race day, I'm going to be hitting up that slip 'n slide, probably representing Northwestern again for my homies (and Northwestern alumni) on the media team.
Seriously though, I don't know why more races aren't copying the slip 'n slide style. I thought maybe I was overestimating how great it would be after I skipped it in 2012, but it's everything I dreamed a slip 'n slide in the middle of a race course would be.
What's that? Yes. Yes, one of these is in the middle of the course. |
