I don't really have much to say here, except that as I mentioned a few weeks ago, I wrote an article for Newcity about the growing popularity of mud runs and how the "running" part of these things is downplayed, which means that they manage to pull in a lot of people who would otherwise never have considered running in a "normal" race.
It's actually a pretty great thing for the running community because I would assume that at least SOME of those people who think they dislike running end up getting into it after doing one of these obstacle course runs... what do you think? Sound plausible?
Also, in a totally unrelated closing note, did you see this article? Seriously Men's Health? Exercising is directly correlated with making more money? As much as I want this to be true, I'm going to need to see some data on this. Just saying "Researchers asked thousands of Americans about their exercise habits as well as their weekly incomes." does not give me enough information to validate your findings.
I'm still interested in signing up for the Men's Health Urbanathlon though. I mean, who knows? Maybe I'll get a raise if I run it...
I think mud-runs bring out a competitive side in people they didn't realize they had.
ReplyDeleteI question this study too - maybe its more like, people who make lots of money happen to have more time to work out- A chicken/egg situation.
Yeah, in my experience I actually lose money from working out. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Maybe there's a way to convert overall health into income? If so, sign me up. Now I want to do a mud run. Obstacles sound like fun. To google I go! Thanks Zfree!
ReplyDeleteI think this one might be up your alley: http://runforyourlives.com/
DeleteObstacles... and Zombies!
I tried muddy buddy and hated it. I did the one in San Jose, CA and it was hilly and dangerous. Dangerous mainly because of the people who never seemed to bike on a trail before. Im not into mud- adventure runs as you can probably see.But hey, if it gets otherwise sedentary people out to move, then good for them! But ill stick to the roads sans mud anyday :)
