What happens when you make people run with you - Fast Cat

Several weeks ago I got signed up for the Fast Cat 10K in Plainfield this weekend. And since then I've been hounding two friends of mine to register as well (partly because it's sporting a super-cool race name, partly because of the promise of a nice, flat course in the suburbs... but mainly because I don't have a car and need a ride there on race day).

Anyway, they agreed to do the 10K as a 2X5K relay (which is a great race option that I can't remember seeing in any other races - good call Fast Cat organizers!). It seems to me that not being runners, these guys earned themselves some promotion by signing up for this... they deserve all the cheers and encouragement they can get! And to help make that possible, I wanted to make sure people will be able to recognize them when they're running.

So, here's the fearless relay team:

And yes, Logan always runs without a shirt on
and
Bill always wears a stupid glasses/mustache mask

So as part of the registration they got to select a Team Name and a Team Description.

Here's what they chose (and submitted):

Team Name: Zach Freeman Is An Abhorrent Human

Team Description: This team of two totally normal, likable guys is running this relay as a favor to their "friend", Zach Freeman, who is dull, dimwitted, obnoxious, rude, quick-to-anger, and who's body smells like regurgitated broccoli and amateur pornography. He's the worst.

Makes me feel so warm and fuzzy.
(Although I have to say that they're misrepresenting me a bit:
I definitely smell like professional pornography.)

So if you're anywhere around Plainfield North High School this Saturday morning at 8:30, make sure you cheer for Bill and Logan (aka Team Zach Freeman Is An Abhorrent Human)! They're definitely aiming for first place.

And if you're looking for a race this weekend why not register for the Fast Cat yourself?

For no reason I'm closing with a picture I took this evening heading back into the city on a run around Navy Pier with my wife and one of her co-workers. I love the Chicago skyline:

Chicagoland's First Annual February Fool's Goal Half Marathon/Debacle

A few weeks ago I was looking through the race listings for the month of February and noticed that there are three different races this coming Sunday. All in different cities. As I was trying to decide which one to run I realized that they're all taking place at different times... and then I started thinking... Why not just run all three? I talked to my running homey Antonio and after some discussion about logistics, we realized that based on the timing and location of the races, this would be an insane dash from Chicago to Highland Park to Hoffman Estates to Channahon and back to Chicago, with just enough time to park, get our bibs, run the races and (after carefully stretching, of course) head off to the next one. That's also when we noticed that by a pretty sweet coincidence, the three races just happen to add up to a half marathon.  So, obviously we decided that it had to be done. We registered for all three and created a new race: Chicagoland's First A...

Chicagoland's First Annual February Fool's Goal Half Marathon/Debacle Completed!

If you were outside running yesterday, or even if you were just sitting inside looking out the window, you are probably aware that yesterday was a terrible weather day. All day. The temperature stayed between 34 and 40 with freezing rain falling on and off throughout the day. But that didn't stop a trio of foolish runners from Chicago from completing the inaugural running of Chicago's newest half marathon: Chicagoland's First Annual February Fool's Goal Half Marathon/Debacle
